Architect
In my work I like to explore the spatiality and plasticity of the environment, to optically influence the perception of space, to use expressive surface finishes and tonality. Spatiality, colour and texture are the main tools; painting and sculpture are part of interiors.
I have designed well-known public and private interiors in Liepāja, Rīga, Valmiera and other Latvian cities. I choose to create my interiors as dramaturgical character pieces and environmental atmospheres. This is how I have created interiors for salons, hotels, restaurants and public spaces. I like to work with individual living spaces, interiors of private houses.
My work has been nominated and awarded in various professional shows. The most well-known interiors published in the professional press are: the “Naudas pasaule, Rigensis Bank, KinoBalle, business centres Māja, Kurzeme, hotels Promenāde, Elefant, Poriņš, restaurants Dorian Gray, Piano, Olīve, Pastnieka māja, Medus, Rātes vārti.
I studied at Liepāja Secondary School of Applied Arts and studied architecture at Riga Polytechnic Institute (now Technical University). My working life has been closely connected with Liepāja – I have been the chief architect of Liepāja, the stage designer of the legendary festival Liepāja Amber and a teacher at the Liepāja Applied Arts High School.
I have been working as an architect and interior designer since 1986. Currently I run my own design office in Riga.
