President of the Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation
Fashion historian, collector, designer, author of popular books and articles, who also happens to be an outstanding lecturer, and interior decorator. He was born on December 8, 1958 in Moscow, into a family of well-known theatrical personalities. He graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School (founded by Nemirovich-Danchenko, a famous theatre worker).
In 1982, Alexandre emigrated to Paris. He has been collecting fashionable clothing pieces for over thirty years. Alexandre Vassiliev’s collection is considered to be one of the most impressive in the world, counting more than 55,000 exhibits. Much of the collection is stored in Lithuania, where his ancestral home and also the headquarters of the Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation are located.
Alexandre is the author of more than a hundred stage settings for various performances of the world’s leading opera and ballet theatres, along with films and theatrical productions. He delivers lectures on fashion history, interior and set design, holds master-classes and courses.
Being the author of many books on fashion history, Alexandre Vassiliev was a special correspondent for the Russian issues of “Vogue” and “Harper’s Bazaar” in Paris.
President of the Alexander Vassiliev Foundation, he actively participates in the creation of exhibitions in various countries, including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, the Czech Republic, France, Switzerland and elsewhere.
